The British Virgin Islands and Phuket, Thailand are two of the most beautiful places to go sailing. These two paradises have the perfect mix of sun, sea, and excitement that attracts both sailors and yacht charter companies. Even though these two places are on opposite sides of the world from each other, they have a few things in common that make them both great places to sail. In this post, we'll look at the many ways these two great sailing destinations are alike and show why every sailor should put them on their bucket list.
One of the most important things that the British Virgin Islands and Phuket have in common is that there are a lot of beautiful islands in each archipelago. Since each island is different, sailing trips to these places will give you a lot of chances to explore and try new things. From the pristine beaches of Virgin Gorda to the lush tropical landscapes of Phi Phi Island, sailing fans are spoiled for choice when it comes to picking their next island stop.
The British Virgin Islands and Phuket both have tropical climates with warm temperatures and lots of sunshine all year long. This makes them both great places to go sailing. The trade winds that blow through the British Virgin Islands make it easy to sail, and the Andaman Sea around Phuket is calm for most of the year, making it a great place for sailors of all levels.
The waters around the British Virgin Islands and Phuket islands are very clear and full of marine life. This gives sailors a chance to marvel at the world under their boats. Snorkeling and diving are popular things to do on sailing trips in both places. They let you see colorful coral reefs, exotic fish, and other sea creatures that you will never forget.
Both the British Virgin Islands and Phuket have well-established yacht charter industries, so sailors can choose from a wide range of boats for their sailing vacations. From big yachts to small sailboats, these places have something for every taste and budget. Also, because there are experienced sailors and crew, even people who have never been sailing before can go on a trip without any problems.
There are navigational aids in both the British Virgin Islands and Phuket, which make sailing in both places even more fun. Markers, buoys, and other tools, that can help a skipper navigate safely through the water and make it easy for them to figure out how to get from one island to the next destination.
When sailing in the British Virgin Islands or Phuket, you'll see more than just beautiful scenery. It is also a chance to learn about the rich local cultures of these places. From the lively beach bars and white sand beaches of the British Virgin Islands to the amazing boating and sailing conditions of Phuket, fully crewed sailing trips in these places offer sailors a wide range of cultural experiences that will stay with them for a long time.
Sailing in the British Virgin Islands and Phuket, Thailand, is a once-in-a-lifetime experience that combines the thrill of adventure with the calm of island life. Whether you're an experienced sailor or just want to try sailing for the first time and explore white sandy beaches, these places will give you a sailing vacation you'll remember for the rest of your life. So, set your sails and head for these two beautiful places—the islands are waiting!

Centara Grand Beach Resort in Phuket is a luxury resort that’s inspired by the quintessential Sino-Portuguese architecture which is typically found amongst the townhouses of Phuket’s old town. Centara Grand has rapidly found success due to pioneering this classical style, which has been a first for Thailand and has drawn the attention of many first-class travelers. This is their newest 5-star luxury resort and covers a whopping 41 hectares which are connected directly to the blissful Karon Beach, found near Krabi province and the beautiful Phi Phi islands.
A highlight of the Centara Grand Beach Resort is the magnificent beauty and intricate design of the Sino-Portuguese architecture, which is best described as a blending of European architecture, Mediterranian culture and Western masonry with a pinch of Eastern charm featuring luxurious decadence and an old fashioned taste of unrestrained opulence.
The cultural heritage here originates from the streets of the Sino-Portuguese style dwellings found in the old town center of Phuket, which is still well preserved and has been functioning now for over 100 years. It’s a respectful nod towards the heritage of Phuket and added to the overall aesthetic during my stay here. Truly staying here was like being in another world.
To give you more of an overview - the buildings are made of traditional masonry, there’s bricks and mortar with smooth plaster walls just as you would expect, and these are decorated with stucco motifs, and of course the instantly recognizable arched windows, pillars, and large doorways, these are finished with hardwood carpentry from local woods and colorful glazed tiles with decorative wrought iron fittings.
The roofing is made of ceramic tiles from the local clay, and the windows are completed with the traditional wooden shutters that are found all over Europe but are quite a unique feature for Thailand. I felt like I was in a different era almost and certainly not the Thailand I had visited before. Staying here felt regal and limitless. High ceilings and grand views are found throughout the immaculately maintained grounds and tropical gardens.
In addition to the outstanding architecture used throughout the construction of the resort, the Centara Grand is also fully equipped with many amenities which are available to all guests, found in all 262 rooms and villas are excellent restrooms with large showers, baths and also HD TVs and WiFI, there’s also a balcony to enjoy the view from, and of course you have access to private swimming pools with jacuzzis that are accompanied by a sea view. There are a total of four fine dining restaurants serving a world of gourmet cuisine with Asian and Italian styles, plus there’s also a beach bar and poolside bar with lounge for your enjoyment.
I enjoyed eating fresh seafood in a spicy Tom Yum soup at the Cove (which is a beachfront restaurant that serves Asian cuisine) and also having some baked pasta dishes at the Mare (the Italian restaurant) which went down well with the house red.
Also, what made me feel like I was living the dream here was the Coast beach club and barefoot bar, with its spa pools. I spent many hours relaxing in the barefoot bar enjoying the rum cocktails and blended or single malt whiskeys on offer and I highly recommend it to anyone wanting to let off some steam and indulge for a week or two.
When staying here you can choose either the half board option which includes the buffet breakfast at The Cove restaurant and a set menu dinner from 7 pm to 10.30 pm or the full board option which includes breakfast, lunch, and dinner at The Cove or Mare restaurant.
You can certainly enjoy a wonderful private time sunbathing here with family because this is the only hotel that is located on the beach without any separation by the road, so there is an expansive long beach with plenty of secluded spots that means you can easily spend the whole day on the beach without any interruptions.
If you are bringing your children, you can also choose to enjoy the giant water park which stretches to the beach along with 4 large swimming pools which are guaranteed to be enjoyed by the whole family. The hotel also prepares many more activities to relax such as tennis courts, a children's playground, fitness center and premium treatment from the Spa Cenvaree.
Transportation to the hotel is simple and easy, it takes only a 45-minute taxi from Phuket International Airport. Hartt Voyages concierge service will provide pick up and drop off to the Marina so you can get your charter easily and not need to worry about arranging a taxi or driver for the day. This is all-inclusive of the price of all charters.
Taking a charter to Phang Nga Bay, Krabi or Phi Phi Island from the Centara grand is a perfect day out, especially for those who enjoy fishing and exploring the islands. We offer both luxury Yachts and motor catamarans that are just perfect for enjoying your dream vacation.
Since Centara Grand Beach Resort is located near Karon beach, you are within a stone's throw from the nightlife of Patong Beach which has many nightclubs, bars, and restaurants for your nighttime enjoyment. Getting to Patong is a short taxi ride and there are many taxis available, ask the front desk to arrange a taxi for you and later to return home simply show them your room card and the driver will understand as the Centara Grand is well known.
Alternatively, when you want to escape from the crowds and have some quiet time, the private beach of the resort is always waiting for you to enjoy some reflection.
If you wish to book a room at the Centara Grand please visit their website: https://www.centarahotelsresorts.com/centaragrand/cpbr/
The number one province in Thailand that I find myself and I hear many others recommend for their bucket list selection is Phuket, you may wonder why is this and what is the charm that makes Thai people and travelers alike so attracted to adding Phuket to their bucket list?
For myself, the first reason I can think of is the crystal clear sea and beautiful sandy Phuket beaches. I know I’m not alone as this can be seen by the sheer amount of people visiting the islands over the years to come and relax, going swimming and snorkeling to explore the beauty of the blissful underwater world that can be found here in Phuket’s waters. Altogether, this combined with the food and wonderful nature spots it makes Phuket become a very suitable pick for a yacht cruising trip in Southeast Asia and ideal for your bucket list.
There’s another province in Thailand near Phuket, called Krabi which is also a great place to visit as it offers beautiful and extremely clean beaches with that iconic white powder sand you are expecting plus it’s less crowded when compared to Phuket. After November until April, the weather is just perfect for traveling and exceptionally good when cruising in a yacht or catamaran because there is far less rain, and weeks of unspoiled sunny days and acres of blue skies to enjoy endless miles of sunshine with friends and loved ones, aboard your yacht.
Of course, once you are in Phuket you must visit the Phi Phi Islands, these are as close to a paradise island that I’ve ever visited myself, and ideal for a bucket list - these are the kind of destination that many people dream of visiting (at least) once in a lifetime!
Phi Phi Islands are a group of islands found in the Andaman Sea and because of this the waters and natural wildlife are stunning as they are outside of the Thai Gulf, and are exposed to a truly gigantic expanse of marine life that spans practically the entire south of the Asian continent. Phi Phi Islands consists of two main islands with many adjourning small islands to be found nearby, so there are lots of beaches and jungles for exploring.
Phi Phi Don is the largest island which is also conveniently found at the center of the whole group of Phi Phi Islands, here you will find excellent accommodation, restaurants, cafes and also many shops. If you buy a half-day tour by speedboat or yacht, this point is usually a resting spot for lunch. You may be familiar with the pictures of the island with two large bays, which are Ton Sai Bay and Loh Dalum Bay, which have plains in the middle.
The Things to Do on Phi Phi Don Are:
Snorkeling: Ko Phi Phi Don has many interesting diving spots to see coral reefs near Yong Kasem Bay, where there are large coral reefs found just under the sea level. You don’t need to dive deep as you still can easily see the beautiful coral reefs from onboard due to the clear transparency of the waters. Due to this Phi Phi is certainly very suitable for beginners who want to see beautiful nature underwater without deep diving.
Another interesting point is the area located on the Eastside of Long Beach, near Ton Sai Bay. There are many types of corals, such as branch and brain corals.
Water activities: Loh Dalum Bay has a wide beach. Due to how the bay acts as a natural wave breaker, the water is very still and also not very deep. Here is suitable for water activities including kayaking, playing on a banana boat, swimming or just having a relaxing time laying down on the beach sunbathing and reading.
Loh Dalum Bay is quieter than Ton Sai Bay so you will feel more relaxed for sure here. If anyone likes to relax with a more secluded scene and some privacy, then you simply must visit Loh Dalum Bay.
Going to play and take photos with monkeys at Monkey Bay: Monkey Bay is a bay with clear blue sea and white beaches next to the steep mountains that are packed full of sprawling jungle overgrowth and large trees. These lush jungles and tropical forests are home to where wild monkeys live, these groups of monkeys often come down to play with tourists to ask for food, and also to scavenge for dropped food left on the beach.
Because people have visited the area for decades the natural friendliness and tame nature of these monkeys now make Monkey bay become one of the highlights in Phi Phi Don, although be warned that these are still wild animals and do love to grab and climb on people - so if you don’t like the sound of that, don’t get too close!
View on the Phi Phi Don viewpoint: Another point that should not be missed is a short walk up the hill from Ton Sai Bay to Phi Phi Don Viewpoint to see the beauty of Phi Phi Don and the turquoise sea contrasts with the beautiful green island. Especially if anyone wants to go to see the sunset, we guarantee that you will get so many beautiful pictures here. By walking up to the observation deck, it's not difficult at all.
There are signs provided throughout the route there and you can walk from the bay area up to the viewpoint in about half an hour. The cost of entry is only 30 baht per person, which is used to keep the area tidy and protect wildlife.
Phi Phi Leh Island is another important island in the Phi Phi Islands. Although the size of the island is not very large. Most areas are limestone mountains with cliffs that almost surround the island. This is mostly because of the beautiful Maya Bay, which was used in the 1999 Hollywood movie ‘The Beach’ starring Leonardo DiCaprio and has made Phi Phi Leh become on of the most frequented tourist spots.
Also, there is Pileh Bay, a beautiful peaceful bay hidden in the middle of the cliffs. This makes the seawater very clear without waves, besides this another interesting spot on the bay is the Viking Cave which is found near the sea and has many natural swiftlet birds nests that are used in traditional Chinese medicine.
Things to do on Phi Phi Leh are:
Take a boat to see the Viking Cave: Viking Cave is a cave in the sea in the limestone mountains. Inside the cave, there are many paintings, most of which are boat paintings that look like Vikings which has resulted in the assumption that it may be a painting of a Viking sailor who had entered this area.
Interesting activities here are cruising around the area of the Viking Cave, which is great for photography, with it's beautiful and unique look. You will need to stay on the boat because the Viking Cave currently has a private company that has received a concession for exclusivity, so tourists are not allowed to walk in the cave. Nearby Viking cave, the boat can make a stop here for you to go snorkeling also if you are lucky, you will be able to find a squid and baby shark!
Experience Tranquility and Peace at Pileh Bay: Pileh Bay is a large bay surrounded by limestone cliffs. This makes you feel like you were in a lounge with the sea as the floor, and sky as your ceiling. The seawater in Pileh Bay is relatively still and calm because it is hidden inside a cliff. When the boat reaches the bay area, the engine will be shut down so you can feel more relax and listen to the sounds of the waves. Besides Pileh Bay also has beautiful diving spots to discover the beauty under the sea. Here you can dive in both very deep and more shallow waters. This area is suited for divers who want to avoid the hustle and bustle of mass tourism and still enjoy the sea breeze.
Take a photo on the boat in front of Maya Bay: This is where the spectacular Maya Bay can be seen. Although Maya Bay is now temporarily closed for rejuvenating the natural ecosystem under order by the Thai government and will be closed for the next 2 or more years you can still take a photo from a boat in front of the famous beach.
Without a doubt, Phi Phi islands are really best seen by private charter rather than on a group tour. Because of this, there are now many yacht and boat charter companies that provide a tour to Phi Phi and there are also many boats for you to choose according to your group's capacity and budget. However, bear in mind that sailing catamarans are not able to go to Phi Phi due to its slow speed so you are better off selecting either a luxury speedboat, yacht or a motor catamaran. Chartering a voyage with Hartt Voyages provides a unique boutique experience where the entire trip is tailored for one all-inclusive price - gourmet meals, drinks, massage, insurance, crew, and fuel are all included.
The main advantages of using a yacht charter for your bucket list trip are of course the route customizations, onboard amenities, activities and dining options. Obviously, when you are the captain of the ship - you don’t need to follow the tour schedule and wait for other people, there’s no need to compromise.
Also, you can enjoy not being rushed and taking more time to explore the places that you would love to stop by, while alternatively, you can choose to skip the places that you are not interested in.
Moreover, there are many islands that you can stop by before/after Phi Phi islands, for example, Khai Island which is suitable for swimming and snorkeling or Rang island for relaxing and pearl farming. There’s also Bamboo island which is also a great place for escaping from the crowds or enjoying an unforgettable romantic moment with its unique heart-shaped island.

]]>In this guide, we will recommend what to do when you arrive in Phuket for your next adventure!
]]>If you’re thinking about tropical adventures with palm trees, a warm sea, and beautiful beaches, then Phuket is the perfect destination for you. The nature in Phuket is idyllic with lush tropical forests, running waterfalls, hot springs and every aspect you’d expect for a paradise island which has become world-famous now with it’s now well established infrastructure, tourist developments, and its international airport. Phuket is the largest island in Thailand and is surrounded by the Andaman Sea, it's also home to a unique indigenous population called Chao Lay (the Thai Sea Gypsies) and is home to approximately 386,000 people.
Besides from being famous for tourism and of course the beautiful Andaman islands, Phuket’s town is full of history worth exploring, with its quaint little streets joining together the local markets, coffee shops and restaurants all built in Sino-Portuguese architecture, featuring brightly colored masonry and beautiful tropical gardens.
In this guide, we will recommend what to do when you arrive in Phuket for your next adventure!
Once you land in Phuket there are many types of places to explore and visit, not only the beautiful sandy Phuket beaches but also many bountiful tropical islands are to be found out further across the turquoise waters. If you cruise a little further from the bays of Phuket you will find many unique experiences for your holiday!
For the beach lovers, of course, there are many beautiful beaches on Phuket island, such as Pa Tong beach, Kata Beach, Karon Beach, and Kamala Beach. Although if you want to explore the coral reefs, and experience the natural underwater world, you really will enjoy getting aboard one of our yachts and venturing out to the nearby islands and reefs!
Phi Phi island is the most popular destination for tourists from around the world and has become famous from the Hollywood movie “The Beach” which was filmed in Phi Phi island’s Maya bay back in 1999.
In Phi Phi, you can still enjoy expansive limestone cliff views with an emerald-colored sea just as it was depicted in the movie, despite the actual filming location of Maya Bay now being closed to rejuvenate the natural ecosystem. Besides Phi Phi island, Koh Racha and the Maiton islands are also popular for divers or those who seek out underwater adventures, and have a passion for seeing colorful coral reefs.
There are also many small islands such as Khai island, Bamboo island and Naka Island where you can enjoy water activities such as jet skiing and fishing - All of which are provided complimentary with all of our charters.
Kata Beach is a glorious beach featuring a large sandy area that has a lot of activities to do for example there’s parachuting, kayaking, fan boarding, swimming, diving and of course enjoying the beautiful tropical sunsets every night.
Although there is lots to do here - what's unique about Kata beach is its great surf. Because of this Kata has become a gathering point for Thai and international surfers alike due to the great waves you can ride here. This area is well known by the surfing community, and as soon as you get near you will start noticing many surfers hanging out on the beach, or out in the water surfing. Many people may not know that Thailand actually does have a decent surfing scene, but that all changes when they visit Kata.
At Kata beach, you can see some awesome breaks during the monsoon season, which is of course the peak season for surfing in Thailand. During this time the swell will cause waves to sometimes exceed three meters. But do not worry if you’re a rookie or newbie to surfing and want to learn, just head down to the surf house and make a booking with a private tutor, there are also surfboards and wetsuits for rent near the beach too!
If you want to head out surfing the islands with a yacht, we’d love to provide this service for you, just give us an email to discuss your next trip ideas.
This is great for photographers and will give you goosebumps from the thrill also - if you go to the area of Mai Khao beach located behind Phuket airport, you can see the plane landing very closely, and take some great photos or make some incredible shots for your travel vlog.
If you are going to do this, it’s really important that you make sure you check the wind direction first because the aircraft’s landing will be dependent on the wind direction (the direction must resist the wind) this can be checked from the website for checking the wind direction by downloading the Flightradar24 app or by checking the weather.
It’s easiest to use the app as it will show the plane schedule in real-time. Besides seeing planes land Mai Khao beach is also very beautiful and relaxed so it’s another place that shouldn’t be missed!
Many people may not know that Thailand has a dolphin viewing point, to view wild dolphins you can simply sail a yacht around to Maiton island. Once in the water here, you will find wild dolphins swimming around you.
They usually live in front of the island, and to the left side of the island. A wild dolphin watching tour on Maiton Island today is not as expensive as it was before, so you really can consider it for your next trip!
Phuket spoils you for choice with great five star resorts and private villas that all have pools, restaurants, tropical gardens and private beaches that will provide the perfect accommodation for you between yacht charters.
Dusit Thani Laguna Phuket is located in the area of Laguna Phuket, which means you can enjoy 18 holes of golf besides a private beach. This is one of the best resorts on the Andaman coast, it has 253 rooms and is suitable for the whole family or for couples, group of friends or also for hosting seminars.
In the Dusit Thani Resort, you have five types of rooms which are the Deluxe Room, Dusit Club Room, Landmark Suite, Dusit Suite and also the Pool Villa. The highlight of the Deluxe Rooms is that there is a large balcony overlooking the beach, where you can enjoy a cool sea breeze.
For the Pool Villa, each villa has 3 floors, with a choice of lakefront or beachfront room on the ground floor with 2 large ensuite bedrooms. On the 2nd floor, there is a fully equipped kitchen for self-catering.
For Dusit Club Room, the specialty of this room is that you can open the back door of the room and walk down to the garden by just a few steps. Most eye-catching and the most enjoyable to play is a large swimming pool. There is a full set of equipment prepared for children, including slides, tunnels, as well as older lifeguards to take care of the safety of the pool users.
Beside the pool, there is also a Pool Cafe which has a poolside bar for guests to enjoy a beverage whilst cooling down in the water. Looking back from the outdoor pool, you will see the quiet Bangtao beach that’s perfect for enjoying a quiet evening stroll and enjoying the sunset.
Another wonderful resort is the Amari Phuket which features spectacular views of the Andaman Sea from its private beach. Because the hotel building is very long and built parallel to the beachfront, it provides a naturally secluded area due to the large boulders and rocks on either side of the property, that means the public cannot walk through the front of the hotel, making this a very exclusive spot indeed.
The Amari Phuket offers five types of accommodation which are the Superior, Deluxe, Junior Suite, One-Bedroom Suite, Two-Bedroom Suite Rooms and Suites all of which are spacious with private balconies.
Deluxe rooms and Suites offer both shower and baths while all room types feature HD TVs with in-house movies as well as a host of thoughtful amenities and other extra touches. Don’t miss the happy hour from 17:30 - 18:30 hrs where you can enjoy complimentary beers, wines, cocktails, soft drinks and snacks, and also worth noting is that here you can enjoy tea and soft drinks at any time.
There are only a few hotels in Patong Beach which have a pier of their own called "The Jetty". This point is also a spot for guests to practice snorkeling. If you like a unique style of the hotel, we recommend Keemala resort, this highly luxurious villa accommodation is built in a very unique style. Not only is it private and peaceful but you’ll also find the design ideal for a romantic trip and it’s also very comfortable. This resort is suitable for those who want to relax in a natural atmosphere, as it is located on the mountain and you can see the Andaman sea in all its glory from this elevated hillside view.
Keemala Hotel is located in the mountains and surrounded by green forests. Watching the sunset here makes it even more romantic and it’s a great spot for honeymoons or for couples wanting to celebrate their anniversary. This is a new hotel that opened its doors for the first time in October of 2015.
The Keemala hotel is inspired by tribal designs, making it have a distinctive architecture that reflects the existence of an ancient Phuket tribe. The bird nest villa has a large terrace, accompanied by a expansive swimming pool and complimented by beautiful stone and mosaic bathrooms with large windows that capture the night’s sky, enabling you to bathe in the moonlight and nourish your soul - overall this is a unique building that is really inspired by a bird’s nest with local folklore of horoscopes, and fortune-telling based on the movements of the stars and celestial bodies.
In the Keemala hotel there is a fitness center, health club, restaurant, sauna, spa, lounge & bar and also a car rental service, there's also laundry service and wedding services and the exquisite Mala Spa which is a natural spa where all of the products focus on purely natural ingredients, and there are absolutely no products that use animal testing, or that contain harmful chemicals to be found here.
The Andaman coast of Thailand is located in the southwest of the country, on the outer edge facing the Andaman Sea - the area is separated by land, divided away from the Thai gulf. This means the region has a unique landscape that is abundant in picturesque nature spots, thriving wildlife and magnificent destinations to visit, it includes some of the most awe-inspiring and sought after yacht charter destinations in the whole of Southeast Asia, such as the now well developed tourist destinations of Phuket and neighbouring Krabi province, and also the outstanding Phang Nga Bay.
You can easily explore these truly bucolic shores that feature some of the best beaches in Thailand, and travel to their nearby smaller islands being immersed in the height of luxury, enjoying the best amenities aboard with all the creature comforts of home by booking a half-day trip, or full-day charter with us, on one of our exclusive yachts.

Once you begin the process of organising your yacht charter, you are in charge of every detail of the voyage, and will be able to consult with our expert crew to create the perfect itinerary for your trip.
When you visit the Andaman coast of southeast Thailand, there are many wonderful beaches and islands that can be taken into consideration for your trip, below are the details of our most frequently requested charter destinations - although if you want to really get out there on your own, and see some hidden gems then please contact us directly, so that we can discuss your plans privately in further detail.
The ‘Phi Phi Islands’ essentially consists of 2 main islands which are Phi Phi Don and Phi Phi Leh. Additionally to these two large islands, there is also Yung island (also known as Bamboo Island) which is a smaller island located nearby the main ‘Phi Phi Islands’.
Phi Phi is considered one of the best of the main tourist attractions in the Thai Andaman Sea, with its pristine coves and large bays that are all accompanied with beautiful white powder sand beaches that are just perfect for sunbathing and relaxing on, you’ll find some of the best beaches in Thailand here. Phi Phi Don is certainly a very desirable destination, and is ranked in the top 10 most beautiful islands in the world!
Phi Phi Don is a pleasure seeking location where you can enjoy tasty fresh Thai dishes in its many restaurants, and enjoy the late hours in its many clubs, and bars. Due to this Phi Phi Don is quite developed for mass tourism - especially at Ton Sai Bay which is full of long-tail boats and speedboats. However, if you charter a yacht with us, you can of course skip this kind of densely populated tourist area and have your lunch served privately aboard the deck of your yacht.
In contrast to this Phi Phi Ley is quite undeveloped and inhabited by a relatively sparse populace, and thus experiences less pollution and also enjoys great coral reefs which are naturally stocked with a plentiful selection of wild, vibrantly coloured tropical fish such as the incredible parrot fish which will catch your eye with her neon colors and unique beak like mouth, with scales that are tinted vibrant shades of magenta, cyan and turquoise blues.
The water is crystal clear in Phi Phi Ley - especially near the Viking Cave which is a unique location for bird nest farming from swiftlet birds. The swiftlet bird nests are harvested from caves in the islands limestone cliffs and used for medicinal purposes. The Chinese believe that swiftlet bird nests are very high in nutrition, being exceptionally good for health and longevity.
Also located in this area, is an incredibly well known spot - Maya Bay which is one of the best beaches in the Phi Phi island cluster and was made famous around 20 years ago by the filming of British movie director Danny Boyle’s blockbuster hit “The Beach” which starred Leonardo Dicaprio and Robert Carlyle and featured the location of Maya Bay as its main filming location using it as a backdrop for most of the movie, which served as a hidden Elysium for the plots cast to escape from the world and be surrounded by unspoilt nature in their own paradise island.
Sadly since the runaway success of the movie - too many tourists decided to recreate the film’s plot and make their own getaway to the ‘The Beach’ as they began visiting Maya Bay in droves, which led to absolutely ruining the ecosystem, and causing huge pollution which began to damage the wildlife.
Therefore several years ago, locals became very concerned by the effects tourism was having on the wildlife and outstanding natural beauty of the area, so after much discussion Phi Phi National Park stepped in to temporarily close Maya Bay to all visitors, to ensure a swift recovery to the ecosystem and the bays’ coral reefs, which are now reportedly looking much healthier and recovering steadily.
Hopefully Maya Bay will be reopened again for a few months a year in the near future, to ensure you stay in the know - subscribe to our newsletter to get notified about when we can begin to charter to the area again.
Lanta island has been gaining more popularity over the past few years, as you can now find restaurants and even resorts located here now. There are limited tourist activities, and a quiet nightlife so Lanta is really suitable for reflecting on life, relaxing with family or reading some books.
Lanta island itself contains many smaller islands that are near to its shores, the most well-known is Lanta Yai which is considered developed enough now for some light tourism, although it is still very much a rustic and extremely rural place. In this area there are many world class diving and snorkeling spots due to the clean waters and the high visibility offered by its waters.
To access Lanta island we can route your charter from several areas: Railey beach, Phuket, Krabi Town, and Phi Phi islands.
Poda Island is part of a popular four-island tour in Krabi. It is one of the first islands found off the coast from Ao Nang which is around 8 km from land, it is an attractive location that has a nice shallow gradient beach which is superb for paddling and sunbathing. For many tourists Koh Poda has become their highlight of traveling in Krabi due to its charming aesthetics, and peaceful island ambience.
One thing to be aware of is that the northern side of Poda can be very busy as there are many long tail boats and speedboats coming and going frequently. Although over on the east coast, you can find those more preferable clean white sand beaches and find yourself a secluded spot to do some sunbathing and swimming.
Although Poda island is actually a private island, there are no entry fees. The best time to visit Poda is during low tide, and ideally not in the monsoon season as heavy weather can hit the island hard.
This island has won an award as being ranked as one of the cleanest beaches in the world! Hong island is located in the Than Bok Khorani National Park, on the west coast of Krabi and consists in total of roughly ten small islands. Inside this area you can find ‘Bay Lake’ which has a gloriously curved, glistening sandy beach which appears to be shaped like the wings of a flying bird! This beach is arguably one of the best beaches in Thailand, as the sand gradually sinks elegantly down into the sea which has many coral lines that offer a wide variety of coral species, which makes diving in this area a real feast for the eyes.
The uniqueness of Hong island is its spectacular limestone rock formations that jut vertically out of the water and tower above you. Here you can use a kayak to explore the islands small channels because the water here is not deep, and it’s also ideal for swimming as there is not a strong current.
Racha Island consists of 2 islands, they are essentially twins which are known as the big and small islands - Racha Yai Island and Rach Noi Island (Yai means big, and noi is small in Thai) they are separated by a stretch of approximately 6 km of sea between the two.
This is a very popular tourist center, mainly due to the silver sand beaches. There is a very unique beach on the west side between a valley that is shaped just like a horseshoe - this is called Pak Tok Bay and it’s certainly well worth a visit!
Racha Yai Island has 3 bays, these are West Bay or Pak Tok Beach, Siam Bay and Ao Thue which can all be walked through together for a beautiful family day out, or romantic island trip.
Racha Yai Island has become a premier diving site in the Andaman Sea, because the seawater here is exceptionally clear for the whole year round, and there are beautiful coral and bountiful tropical marine life to be found here with coral species such as staghorn and stony coral, you’ll also encounter sea eels, stingrays, pufferfish and giant squids which are unique to Racha and not commonly seen at other diving sites.
This island is perfect for nature lovers and is full of unspoiled nature, with fine glistening bright white powder beaches that are adorned with perfectly clear waters. The island features the iconic steep hills, boulders and rocks which are seen throughout this area of Thailand’s Andaman shores.
During the low tide, there is a natural phenomenon that occurs on the island known as the Thale Waek (Separated Sea) where the tide lowers, and enables you to walk right through the sea to connect to the other side of the island!
Because Racha Noi’s larger twin Racha Yai is normally frequented by many tourists, Racha Noi Island is not extremely popular now. Since Racha Noi is far from mainland shores it’s become somewhat protected from the outside world, and become a beautiful paradise island for those who wish to seek it out!
Racha Noi is very rich in resources, especially underground and in the nearby waters. It is a spectacular deep-diving point where there are many kinds of coral, including coral reefs, dish coral, and soft coral variants including sponges and sea fans that are extremely rare and unique to the areas. This really is a must see for divers and lovers of marine life.
Known for some time now as ‘The Coral Island’ - Hae Island is a small island that’s located around 10 kilometers from the Southern side of Phuket’s coastline.
Hae island is a very popular island for tourists that are visiting Phuket for a short break, as you can travel easily by 10-15 minutes speed boat to the island so it is really quite convenient to travel too for a day trip and also the cost is not very high. Because of this Hae Island often has many tourists visiting for the day, and can become a bit crowded in places, especially during the high season.
There are plenty of shallow water corals to be found here, complemented by clear waters with huge schools of fish swimming through the underwater world that is found on the west side of the island. Additionally there are many unique corals such as brain and Staghorn corals to be found along Hae Island’s long reef which is also home to plenty of colorful exotic fish such as the butterflyfish.
Krabi, Phuket and Phang Nga are ideal places to select as a base for island hopping and starting your excursions around Thailand’s Andaman Sea, where life slows down a pace enabling you to just relax and take in the very best beaches in Thailand marvelling at the glorious unspoilt nature, and exploring the vibrant corals found lurking below!

Krabi is a beautiful coastal province in southern Thailand, found nestled along the Andaman coastline that covers an expansive 1,818 square miles and has a population of approximately 450,000 inhabitants.
Krabi’s beautiful sandy beaches and incredible nature spots include many tropical jungles, mangroves and dense hardwood forests which are all adorned by its iconic limestone cliffs, there’s certainly no wonder why Krabi is one of the most highly regarded 'must see' places in the whole of Southeast Asia.
The temperature in Krabi is typically always pleasant, and averages around 32c (86f) with evening lows of 22c (72f). There are only two distinct seasons in Krabi - Summer season and the rainy monsoon season which is during June to November. The monsoons make Krabi soak in the moisture and rejuvenate the vibrant green, tropical jungles with their strong rains and dramatic intermittent thunderstorms. After the monsoon period finishes in November, the weather will be much dryer and you will see hardly any rain at all with weeks of bright blue, clear skies every single day, and a beautiful refreshing sea that is thriving with marine wildlife and warm to the touch.
Throughout the province, there are many great places to stay. Krabi is definitely a place you will want to spend more than a night in! While there are relatively cheap and affordable hotels, there are also many luxury hotels and resorts to be found in Krabi.
One prominent choice is Dusit Thani Krabi which is one of the most highly recommended hotels as it has a private beach, and is ideally suited for those wishing to escape the hustle and bustle of city life.
Dusit Thani Krabi is a large 5-star beach resort with 240 guest rooms. The resort grounds have two beautiful beachfront pools that are perfect for kicking back and relaxing under its pristine white poolside canopies, or going for a swim and feeling the sea breeze cool you down, whilst relaxing on its private beach’s sun loungers under dappled light, reading and chatting in the cooler shade of its abundant coconut trees and palms.
Additionally on site there is a spa, and a selection of restaurants serving up delicious gourmet Thai food, plus a tropical garden for taking a blissful evening stroll in, all of which make it an ideal retreat for both families and business people alike.
Besides this, the Tubkaak Krabi boutique resort is also one of our highly recommended resorts, and has won an award for its outstanding environmentally friendly design and also as the best romance resort in Krabi.
Lastly the Centara Grand Beach Resort and Villas Krabi which are found located at Phi long bay, feature views of the sheer vertical limestone cliffs as an ornate backdrop completed with beautiful contemporary Thai decorations.
There really are so many famous places in Krabi that you are spoiled for choice. On mainland Krabi, Ao Nang offers plenty of beaches and bars, and also provides tours and excursions, while near-by Railey beach has been voted the best beach in the whole of Krabi!
The beaches of Krabi are all extremely clean and pleasing to the eye, with their white sand and crystal clear emerald tinted waters. After you’ve returned from sunbathing and swimming for your evening meal, you can also enjoy shopping at the Krabi night market which is also very interesting and an exceptionally big one (even by Thai standards!)
For nature lovers especially, the deep emerald colored pond in Thung Teao Forest National Park is absolutely stunning, with a mud pond so aerated that it will have foam bubbles frothing up after you just merely clap your hands together a few times! Another natural wonder also worth checking out is Krabi’s shell cemetery, which is one of the oldest places to visit in Krabi, dating back to more than 40 million years ago featuring a stretch of fossilized shells from the Jurassic period which are set into the limestone!
When you wish to rejuvenate and relax during your time in Krabi you must visit the Klong Thom hot springs which have beautiful, free flowing water and unique naturally shiny rocks due to the years of natural erosion, the warm water is believed to possess certain healing properties for curing skin diseases and rejuvenating your appearance - it’s pretty much a fountain of youth!
Nearby to Klong Thom is the Tiger Cave Temple, located a few minutes away from the city center of Krabi and with it’s 1200 steps climb up the mountain side, it rewards those who make the effort with breathtakingly stunning panoramic views of Krabi, it’s a location that’s ideal for photographers and adventurers alike.
Incredibly besides all of these wonderful locations, Krabi still has much more tourist attractions for you to visit, we consider these to be exceptionally amazing and are the truly unseen Thailand set far away from the beaten tourist track, one such location is the separated sea (Thelae Weak) which is a natural wonder that has formed in such a way that you can walk through 3 islands during a low tide!
Also in Krabi are the world famous Phi Phi islands, which have now become the most sought-after travel destinations in the whole of Krabi province. There are plenty of things to see in Phi Phi.
The most famous destination found here is arguably Maya Bay, which was made known world over after the blockbuster hit “The Beach” that was shot here in 1999 directed by Danny Boyle and featured Leonardo DiCaprio in its starring role.
Phi Phi has certainly been developed quite somewhat since the success of the movie all those years ago, and there are now plenty of beach bars, clubs and restaurants to be found nestled away amongst its tropical jungle, white beaches and gigantic boulders.
Now unfortunately the ecosystem was destroyed by the disturbance of millions of tourists flocking to the area, and so Phi Phi National Park decided to intervene and to temporarily close Maya Bay to recover the natural ecology, meaning that you cannot visit the area currently - although hopefully in the future it will reopen for short periods at a time, once the wildlife has fully recovered to its previous glory.
If you prefer a bit more of a calming island hopping experience, away from tourist nightlife then Koh Lanta (which is much larger than Phi Phi) has to be on your itinerary, Koh Lanta has a bit of a reputation for a laid back hippy lifestyle and once you visit, you will see the true meaning of being naturally chilled out.
Out in Koh Lanta time moves at a different pace and you can be completely relaxed, you can unwind here and take a long siestas, and enjoy the unspoilt horizons. Although don’t worry about it being so relaxed that there’s nothing going on at all! There are still small nightlife venues, great restaurants serving up locally caught fish, and small bars for cocktails or refreshments. This is perfect for when you need to come back to civilization for a bit, before you find yourself heading back off to the warm waters, and sandy beaches again!
